YouTuber Max Power is allegedly hospitalized after getting the fatal brain-eating amoeba, Naegleria fowleri, that he contracted from jumping into a still water pool without any protection.
On November 7, 2024, an Instagram account named after his YouTube channel, Strange Places with Max Power, uploaded a picture of the YouTuber hospitalized with medical equipment attached.
The post caption reads, “Max Power, hospitalized after getting the brain eating ameba from still water shown in @lordexplores @obsoletevoids video (circa 2019).“
Following the post, netizens quickly showered best wishes and quick recovery messages in the comment section.
Prior to that, the TikTok account @obsoletevoids shared a clip of Max Power jumping into the still-water pool at an abandoned school in 2019 and the current situation of the pool. In the video, they said they went there to show respect to the YouTuber.
The video has over 1.6 million views, and it sparked the rumor that the Max Power is no longer due to brain-eating amoeba.
While the YouTuber Max Power has not updated about his health, rumors of his demise have already surfaced online. Some even wrote, “Rest in Peace,” in the comments. However, he is still alive but hospitalized.
Naegleria fowleri, aka brain-eating amoeba infection, becomes fatal within 2 weeks!
In the video, Max Power says he’s doing it for the views before jumping into the pool. He is wearing only blue boxer briefs.
He takes the daring dive and comes out pretty quickly from the pool. However, it seems it was enough for a brain-eating amoeba, Naegleria fowleri, to infect him.
Later, as per online reports, Max Power was hospitalized following the infection but survived it. His latest Instagram image with the hospitalized scene appeared to be the Snapchat photo he took back in 2019.
If that is true, then he is not sick now and has already recovered from the deadly infection.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Naegleria fowleri is a free-living ameba that thrives in warm freshwater lakes, rivers, and hot springs.
If the water containing the ameba enters the nose or ear, it can infect the brain and rapidly destroy brain tissue. The condition has the medical term primary amebic meningoencephalitis or PAM.
After the infection, the symptoms reportedly start to appear within 1-9 days and become fatal within 1 to 18 days after symptoms begin.
Given the deadly nature of Naegleria fowleri infection, there are barely more than a dozen survivors worldwide. So, if Max Power also survived the brain-eating amoeba, he would be among the few lucky people who had defeated the amoeba.
