His family members announced the death of the Me and Bobby McGee singer on September 30 through Kris Kristofferson’s official Instagram page.

In 1999, shortly after his album The Austin Sessions was released, Kris Kristofferson underwent three heart bypass surgery, a surgical procedure to treat coronary artery disease.
This was not the only health problem that the Grammy Winner faced; he also suffered from long-term Alzheimer which later turned to be Lyme disease, during his 70s.
Likewise, according to the Lyme disease organization, Kris Kristofferson was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, which was the first indication of Lyme, and the symptoms were painful spasms all over his back and legs.
For years, doctors were misdiagnosing Kristofferson for Alzheimer’s or dementia caused by boxing, football, and rugby in his teens and early twenties. However, in early 2016, a doctor tested Kristofferson for Lyme disease, which came positive.
According to Rolling Stones, his wife, Lisa Meyers, believed that he began suffering from Lyme disease from a tick as he crawled around the forest floor in Vermont for six weeks while filming the movie Disappearances.
Lisa Meyers also stated that after giving up his Alzheimer’s and depression pills and starting the three-week treatment of Lyme disease, Kris Kristofferson was perfectly normal.
