Following his swooping win in the 2024 Presidential Election, President Donald Trump allegedly shared that he has been listening to “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar to honor the singer and the American music industry.
After being elected to office, Donald Trump shared on his Truth Social account that he had the song on repeat. The politician mentioned that he initially heard about the song from his campaign team and decided to listen.
The statement further mentioned, “I won, and I thought, wow, that’s a great song. Funny that the Canadians think they are better than us. They aren’t. Canada is crumbling upon itself-and it’s because of this song.“

Fans claimed that Trump’s words indirectly addressed the ongoing feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. The rappers’ disagreement has spanned since the early 2010s and escalated after the release of “Like That.”
Moreover, the song referred to Drake and members of his security team, revealing their explicit acts in the industry. The cover art for the track included a satellite image of Drake’s mansion labeled with pins to represent federal offenders.
Trump’s post gained over 3.2 million engagements on Twitter as one wrote, “He used the Drake and Kendrick beef to roast Canada. Haha. He cooked so hard. The simulation just keeps getting funnier.“
Later, users verified that Donald Trump hadn’t made any statement regarding “Not Like Us“ on his official accounts. An anonymous creator had edited the image with the politician’s details to deceive the fans.
Kendrick Lamar cited his dissatisfaction with Donald Trump for harming the black community!
Despite his popularity in the music industry, Lamar rarely discusses his political ideas in interviews. The rapper previously spoke about Trump and his administration in a limited interview with i-D magazine.
When the interviewer asked him about the politician, Lamar commented, “We all are baffled. It is something that completely disregards our moral compass. How can you follow someone who doesn’t know how to approach someone or speak kindly to them?“
Similarly, this isn’t the first incident in which the rapper has been associated with Trump. During the politician’s event at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) in Chicago, a group protested with Lamar’s song.

"I love this song! A true AMERICAN song."

They are not!" pic.twitter.com/09xgPnSVV0
The protestors played “Not Like Us” initially but changed the chorus to a repeated “Trump’s not like us.” Many praised the group for the peaceful protest and for taking a stand outside the NABJ event.
Moreover, the protest came after Trump’s questionable comment towards Kamala Harris. During the campaign, he repeatedly inquired about Harris’ cultural background and accused her of being a fake African-American.
Meanwhile, Harris used the same song during a rally in Atlanta that engaged the crowd. Clips from the event surfaced online, where audiences enjoyed the song while chanting along to the chorus with “wop, wop, wop” punch lines.
Additionally, the song has been turned into a parody, with Trump’s voice artificially generated using A.I. The politician disses Joe Biden with the lyrics, “I went to the hood and asked them a question, they said they don’t feel Joe bad and represent.“
