The false news of China declaring George Soros a terrorist has resurfaced online once again and even became viral as the post has gained over 1.9 million views and 27,000 retweets on Twitter.
Contrary to the viral post, China has not declared George Soros, founder of Open Society Foundations, a ‘Global Terrorist.’
It is not the first time that the American billionaire Soros has been the subject of false online rumors claiming he is a terrorist.

Back in 2021, many social media posts allegedly claimed Russia, China, and Australia declared Soros a global terrorist. They even claimed that the Russian government announced an arrest warrant against him.
However, they all were fake and false claims, as various legitimate news outlets, such as USA Today and Reuters, fact-checked them and confirmed their inaccuracy.
Rumors stemmed from an opinion piece in The Global Times, the flagship newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party!
Back on September 4, 2021, The Global Times newspaper published an opinion piece titled, “This ‘global economic terrorist’ is targeting China!“
The article accused George Soros of financially supporting Hong Kong’s convicted newspaper owner, Jimmy Lai, in connection to the city’s anti-Beijing protests in 2019 without citing any evidence.
The opinion editorial also featured a headline from the Indian media, quoting, “India must beware the global economic terrorist George Soros.“
So, it seems such op-ed pieces gave rise to false interpretations and rumors that China declared George Soros a terrorist.
Russia issued an arrest warrant for George Soros, and China declared him a global terrorist.

Since 2021, every now and then, these types of rumors resurfaced and vanished, all while stirring misleading information in people’s minds.
When USA Today reached out to the spokesperson for the Open Society Foundations, they confirmed that the claim about George Soros was false.
Furthermore, China has never labeled George Soros a terrorist, given there are no official reports from the Chinese media outlets.
Nevertheless, the viral post has garnered quite a lot of comments, with many asking for banning George Soros from the USA. One commented, “And the FCC fast tracked Soros buying another 200 radio stations. How many country’s consider him a terrorist now.“
Meanwhile, another wrote, “Soros foundation are money behind all these pesky protesters.“
