Authorities reported a tragic road accident on November 16, 2024, involving Ray Card and an unnamed woman. The parties were rushed to the nearest hospital as the crash investigation was underway.
According to official reports, Ray Card was driving along the Geelong Ring Road around 11:20 p.m. when his vehicle collided. Card wasn’t alone in the car; he was traveling with his 57-year-old wife.
Further, the woman suffered from life-threatening injuries and was declared deceased on the scene. Card’s Ford Ranger hit a BMW driven by a 23-year-old man and his partner, and authorities have taken them in for questioning.

After the initial emergency call, paramedics rushed to the scene and took Card to the Royal Melbourne Hospital. The authorities didn’t reveal his condition immediately but later confirmed that he was in stable condition.
Moreover, his family members have requested the media and public to respect their privacy during Card’s recovery period. Initially, many speculated that the deceased woman might be a close family member, and the patrol team later confirmed this.

The recent incident created a tense phase for Card’s fans, who had followed him since his football debut. A former Australian rules footballer, he started playing on May 21, 1977.
Card came from a sports background. His father, George Card, was a Geelong player who had led the Yallourn team as a captain-coach during the 1940s. Moreover, his father left a significant mark in the Victorian Football League.
Following his father’s footsteps, Card strived to become one of the finest football players in the league and applied for the Morwell Football Club, where he won the title of best and fairest player.
Later, the player joined the Cats and wore the number 20 during local tournaments. In 1983, the association awarded Card the Carji Greeves Medal due to his excellent field records.
He began refining his techniques and landed a captain-coach position for the Wangaratta Football Club in the Ovens and Murray Football League between 1988 and 1990. Cards then fulfilled the duties of assistant playing coach for the same team.
Card played over 110 games throughout his career and had an average score record of 4 goals. He helped the Milawa Football Club with the Ovens & Kings Football League premiership.
