On December 31, 2024, Dandy Crazy was involved in a severe road accident near Kapiri Mposhi along the Great North Road. The collision involved three vehicles: a Shackman truck, a Toyota Allex, and a Nissan Hardbody.
This resulted in the immediate passing of four individuals, and Chris Jews, Dandy Crazy’s backing vocalist, was one of them.
The 28-year-old truck driver had lost control due to excessive speed and collided with the Toyota Allex and Nissan Hardbody. Dandy Crazy had sustained serious injuries in the accident and was initially rushed to Kabwe Central Hospital.
Later, he was transferred to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka for advanced medical care. The Central Province Police Commissioner, Charity Munganga, confirmed the devastating news of Dandy’s accident.
Dandy Crazy was battling for his life at UTH, and despite the medical team’s efforts, he was in a critical condition.
Sadly, he couldn’t pull through, and on January 2, 2025, at 1:42 am, he went to his final rest. According to media reports, his wife, Hellen, has been admitted to UTH after collapsing upon receiving the news of her husband’s passing.
The president of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, has also expressed his heartfelt condolences and extended regards to the family. Fans and fellow artists are also mourning the loss of a musician who had a profound impact on the industry.
Dandy Crazy can’t get a break from the drama even after his final ride!
Like any other celebrity, Dandy Crazy had his fair share of controversies, which kept him in the headlines every now and then. However, a social media influencer seems not to let go of the drama even after his passing.
Recently, Dandy had a heated argument with social media influencer Simon Mwewa Lane.
This drama got real when Simon made some harsh comments about Dandy Crazy and other Zambian artists on his Facebook page. Following the Dandy Crazy accident, Simon shared a post saying don’t drink and drive.
The Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts quickly stepped in, condemning Simon’s remarks and urging him to apologize. They emphasized the importance of uplifting artists, especially in light of the tragic events surrounding Dandy.
However, Simon has come forth and issued a statement claiming the remark wasn’t about Dandy Crazy.
In 2013, Dandy was arrested for marijuana possession, which rocked his career but didn’t manage to derail it altogether. Moreover, in 2016, he faced legal troubles again for trafficking marijuana, which is a serious offense under Zambian law.
Dandy Crazy was found guilty and received a one-year suspended sentence. However, the public and fellow artists had mixed reactions to this decision. Additionally, in August 2019, Dandy issued a public apology for making hurtful remarks during an event.
Dandy said his wild behavior was because of the booze and the thrill of the moment.
At the time of his passing, Dandy was reportedly working on a new album, including a campaign song for the PF’s 2026 election bid. His untimely death has brought these projects to an abrupt halt, leaving fans and collaborators in shock.
Nevertheless, his legacy will live on through the vibrant tunes and cultural impact he made in the Zambian music scene.
