Highlights

  • Fans speculated about Young Ma’s sickness from the two-year-old video that a celebrity barber, Aaron “Fatsdabarber” Turk, had posted.
  • She assured fans that she was in good spirits and planned to share more about her journey through her music.

Katorah Kasanova Marrero, known professionally as Young Ma, started writing rhymes in her schoolbooks when she was 10. Her mother encouraged her and purchased a karaoke machine.

She was passionate about music and rapped about violence, women, wealth, and acquisitions. She worked at Shake Shack and T.J. Maxx and self-funded a recording studio with local record producers.

Although her song, Brooklyn Chiraq, was criticized for violent, harmful, and genocidal energy in 2014, it expanded her name and brought new listeners to her work.

Her debut single, Ooouuu, peaked at number 19 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and had nearly 7 million plays on Spotify in September 2016.

Hip-hop artists like Nicki Minaj, Remy Ma, Jadakiss, Tink, French Montana, ASAP Ferg, and Uncle Murda remixed her debut single and released their song versions.

She released her debut album, Herstory in the Making, on September 27, 2019, and her second studio album, Off the Yak, on May 21, 2021.

This industry is male-dominated, we can’t pretend that it’s not. So when you do make it as a female, you feel more honored, because the guys take over so much.

She responded to the viral video showing her with yellow eyes, for which fans speculated have contracted jaundice.

Aaron “Fatsdabarber” Turk, a celebrity barber, showed her hair before and after, and fans noticed the change in her eye color.

While netizens attacked him for posting her video, which seemed to have neglected her health, he defended himself against the backlash.

Y’all got so much to say as if I’m trying to embarrass my dawg. If she didn’t want me to record, she would’ve told me. Y’all don’t know our bond nor our friendship.
What y’all need to do is just send your prayers for her and that’s that she didn’t have a haircut in a month, and she wanted me to bring her haircut back to life, which I did. Thank you for coming, [Young M.A], and rocking with me like always. Love ya.

Young Ma Has Been Open About Her Sexual Orientation

The American rapper Young Ma has often discussed her orientation in her music throughout her career. During her interview at the Breakfast Club, she mentioned that she liked girls since she was in first grade.

She stated that she often felt out of place when she was hiding her sexuality.

Young always denied that she was a lesbian to her mother when she tried to discuss her sexuality. She feared her mother wouldn’t accept her.

I used to be scared to tell my moms, though I knew my moms wasn’t the type of mother to be like ‘Oh, I don’t like you’ or ‘I’m gonna ignore you,’ but part of me still was scared.

Moreover, her upbringing in New York City aided in her acceptance of her sexuality and identity. She used to see lots of gay people in the city, which made her comfortable.

Young is open about being a lesbian but does not like to use any label for herself. Similarly, she doesn’t want it to define her as an artist.

Jason Lee of Hollywood Unlocked asked her about her orientation, and she said, “No, I’m Young M.A. We don’t do no labels. I just wouldn’t date a guy. Nah, bro, I don’t like that.

Previously, she dated itsmselfmade.
