Paul Lowe and his wife Amra Abadzic Lowe documented the Sarajevo’s siege before his untimely demise!
British photojournalist Paul Lowe covered significant world events alongside his wife, Amra Abadzic Lowe. One of their acclaimed works was on the conflict in the former Yugoslavia and Bosnia.
Paul Lowe had been with his wife for several years, sharing a passion for history and arts. The couple lived between London and the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo, but Paul often traveled to Southern California for work and other family matters.
Moreover, Amra attended the Treca Gimnazija before joining the Open University London, where she completed her degree in history and sociology. She attended events with her husband and participated in panel discussions about world politics.

Along with her work, she balanced her life as a mother to two sons, Emir Max and Amil Jack. As a self-employed individual, Amra published her book “Sarajevo: The Longest Siege” in January 2024 on physical and digital mediums in collaboration with Amazon and Kindle.
Further, the book is available in five languages, including English, Bosnian, French, and German. During the book’s release, Paul Lowe congratulated his wife on Twitter for the achievement.
The photojournalist posted pictures of Amra’s books and wrote, “So proud of my amazing wife who has written an intimate, emotional, and accessible guide to how the city’s citizens dealt with the terrible aggression they were subjected to.“
Such encouraging words proved that Paul and his wife had a supportive relationship throughout the years, which became stained after Paul’s recent demise at the hands of their oldest son, Emir Max.

Before his demise, Paul taught at the University of the Arts in London and had a decade-long career in war photography. During that time, he captured images of Nelson Mandela’s release and the Romanian Revolution.
However, he had an untimely demise at the age of 61 after authorities found his body with fatal stab wounds in the San Gabriel Mountains on October 12, 2024. Moreover, the police pronounced the photojournalist deceased at the scene.
After Paul’s body was discovered, an unidentified person was seen fleeing the scene but crashed his car a few miles down the road, where police took him into custody.
Further, the unusual nature of the incident immediately probed an investigation, which led to the detention of their 19-year-old son, Emir. The authorities held him at the Los Angeles County Jail on a $2 million bond over suspicion of his father’s demise.
Given the ongoing investigation, authorities have yet to ascertain the motive behind the Emir’s action. Meanwhile, Paul’s wife has remained away from her son for legal reasons.
Additionally, they scheduled Emir to appear in court for a hearing three days after the official reports. The federal judge has not sentenced the teen as the authorities are still gathering relevant evidence.
Meanwhile, the journalism community mourns the loss of an extraordinary talent and has sent heartfelt messages to his wife and younger son during this difficult time.
Regan, one of Paul’s closest colleagues, wrote, “For those who knew him, Paul wasn’t just a great artist. He was a kind soul who cared deeply for the people and the stories he photographed.“
Moreover, Paul’s family and future generations who love exploring political history will keep his memory and legacy alive, as the embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina mentioned.
