On October 22, 2024, Florida police arrested Mike Jeffries, his partner Matthew Smith, and James Jacobson after prosecutors indicted them of 16 federal counts of sex trafficking and international prostitution in New York.
Moreover, the federal indictment accused the trio of operating “an international sex trafficking and prostitution business” from 2008 to 2015.
It stated that Mike, his partner Matthew, and James “employed coercive, fraudulent and deceptive tactics in connection with the recruitment, hiring, transportation, obtaining, maintaining, solicitation and payment of the men to engage in commercial sex.“

As per the indictment, Mike and his partner hired James to recruit, interview, and hire men to perform commercial intimate acts for them. They would promise the alleged victims with modeling and career opportunities at Abercrombie to entice them.
Prior to the sex events, they demanded victims to sign nondisclosure agreements and surrender their wallets and cellphones during the events. Later, they would pressure the alleged victims into taking muscle relaxants to perform sex acts in such events.
On the same day of arrest, Mike Jeffries was released on a $10 million bond but confined to home detention with GPS monitoring.
