Anthony Michael Volpe was born on April 28, 2001, to his parents, Michael and Isabelle, in Manhattan, New York.
While both of his parents are doctors, as his father is a urologist and his mother an anesthesiologist, he chose a different career path in which he had an interest from an early age.
Growing up on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, he watched the New York Yankees and quickly became a Yankees fan.
Later, his family moved to Watchung, New Jersey, when he was in the fourth grade. There, he attended Delbarton School and played for the school’s baseball team.
Interestingly, he was Jack Leiter’s teammate at the time. In 2019, Perfect Game named him the New Jersey High School Player of the Year.
With his impressive baseball skills, he outshone the others in the field and grabbed the attention of his school authority, which eventually propelled him to the Yankees.
Furthermore, the Yankees drafted Anthony Volpe in the first round, with the 30th overall selection of the 2019 MLB draft. He signed for $2.7 million and debuted with the Pulaski Yankees in the Rookie League.
In 2023, Anthony Volpe finally got his chance to shine with his MLB debut, where he was recognized as the “Shortstop of the Year” and won the American League Gold Glove in the same season.
