On December 9, 2023, Destiny Buffington had to face the most challenging night in her life as her mother-in-law attacked her baby, Myra. The incident nearly claimed the lives of Destiny and her child, who still requires weekly therapy for mobility.
Destiny Buffington stated that her family was under attack while they slept, and their 6-month-old baby, Myra, sustained head injuries that required immediate surgery.
While being airlifted to UC West Chester Hospital, the baby lost a significant amount of blood, and doctors warned that survival chances were low.
Moreover, the surgeons completed a life-saving procedure on the child by removing parts of her skull in an attempt to reduce pressure. However, doctors placed Myra under emergency observation for three days because they could not stop the bleeding in her brain.

In addition, Myra frequently suffered from undetectable seizures, spent months in the hospital, and had to be sedated for weeks to stabilize her condition. The medical team mentioned that Myra has to live with her disability for the rest of her life.

Myra requires constant medical attention and a full-time caregiver, and her family has shared her story on social platforms several times. Moreover, her grandmother, Mia Harris, assaulted her and initially planned to harm Destiny.
During the incident, Mia used the firearm at Destiny’s grandmother at a close range, causing minor injury to the head. She then turned the arm to her granddaughter, injuring her several before fleeing the scene.
Additionally, they housed seven family members at the time, and housing expenses were rising as police investigated the case in hopes of locating the convict. Authorities detained Mia within hours, and she revealed that she had planned to exterminate the infant.

Since then, Destiny has been rehomed to an undisclosed location with her baby and has worked hard to adjust to her responsibilities as Myra’s mother. On October 21, 2024, she shared a video of her daughter’s first birthday, celebrated with close family members.
Meanwhile, her GoFundMe has been receiving donations to address Myra’s needs throughout her recovery journey. Destiny mentioned that Myra requires a reliable car for hospital transportation, equipment for movements, and an emotional support dog for her seizures.
Similarly, Destiny plans to enroll her baby in music and brain-focused therapy. The initiative, which TaMia Carter has organized on behalf of the Buffington family, has raised $7,722 out of its $25,000 goal, with donations from 259 members.
